AMA Receive Building Excellence Award from Bristol City Council
Andrew Minto Architecture wins 'Highly Commended' in Bristol City Council's annual Building Excellence Awards 2018.
The award was given in the category of 'Best Partnership With a Local Authority Building Control Team' - which recognises an exemplary spirit of partnership with the Local Authority.
Andrew Minto received the award from David Fletcher (Bristol City Council Building Regulations & Standards Manager) outside a completed development of 4 new-build cottages.
The new homes are in the Westbury-on-Trym Conservation Area on what was formerly derelict brownfield land.
This award enters Andrew Minto Architecture in to the Regional Finals for the Local Authority Building Excellence Awards.

Our brief was to modernise the whole building (for a striking contemporary design) - with masses of light internally and lots of 'wow-features'!
To complication matters - the building is set in a Conservation Area.dd
The existing building was very dark internally, for a number of reasons:
- Low number of windows.
- Split levels internally (preventing light passing through).
- Large roof overhangs (shielding windows from light).
- Recessed entrance with frosted glass (preventing light entering).
- Dark materials, especially internally (making it look and feel dark).
- Orientation to the sun, where most of the day sun light is only at the side.
